Andrea Maya - Final Homework

Hi Nino,

Here's the final illustration. I started over since I didn't like what I had last week. There are things I still want to finish or fix, for example, the plants look very flat right now and I'm not completely happy with some shadows.

This illustration gave me lots of trouble but I really enjoyed it.

Thank you for your class, looking forward to take your "Intro to illustration" class in the winter term.

 Hi Nino,

Thanks for your feedback last week, it was great. I think I applied what you mentioned there, tried to clean up the foreground a bit, and the sky/clouds, and tried to bring as much focus to the island as possible. Got rid of the wizard too. I got rid of the tower as well and decided to add a few ruins/ruined watchtowers etc. instead. 

I hope this is an improvement - I'm quite happy with it! Looking forward to see how I could improve it further.

Also, I realised that you've recently started working on MTG illustrations, I had no idea earlier. Congrats! If you could share some tips as to how I could eventually have a shot at joining the Wizards of the Coast roster I would be super greatful. I know it's a long, complicated road, and I want to develop to be as versatile as possible (I think this course with you has been a major catalyst for me), but, coming back to my point, I think painting a Magic card one day would be an amazing achievement. 

I've signed up for Environment Design with Elton Lo starting in October, I hope I'll manage!

ps. also, I just remembered - would you be able to talk about the filters you mentioned you use to give your work the final touches? I was thinking of using some filters to bring some movement/variety to some parts of the illustration, and I swear you demonstrated this before, but I can't find it anywhere! Was it Filter > Stylize? All the filters in the PS gallery just seem a bit off, or I just can't utilise them. A quick recap would be great.

BRUNO W FINAL HOMEWORK IMAGE

 Hey Nino!

Thanks for the feedback last week. I worked on the image comp in 3D and then painted and photobashed over the image. I had real difficulty getting it to feel dark enough without actually making the image super dark!

I feel like its missing something but I don't know what...it just seems a bit bland. Like ice cream without any flavour. Help!

Drake Gomez--Week 7 homework

Well, here's my figure painting from week 7, still unfinished, but I've learned a lot from this one. For one thing, I finally figured out how use the Liquify tool, and this was the first painting where I also used the Smudge and Burn tools.

I think the figure's back, hips, arm, and thighs are finished. The things that aren't finished should be obvious. I know it's going to take a while to paint those features, and I didn't want to rush it.

The photo I worked from was a little different than the one you see here--her back was not as washed out as this one, and the background gray matched my background almost exactly. I used this photo because I had done some drawing on top of the one I worked from, and some of the figure was covered up with my lines.

I had real fun with the background! Usually I struggle with environment but I'm proud
of the result this time :)

I was able to block in the base colours for my character. When she'll be done I will have to correct the pose a bit so that her arm is actually placed against the wall.

Thank you so much Nino for this term, I learned a lot! I'm looking forward to next term in Intro to Illustration :)
